Based on this research, in consultation with leading Dutch nutritionists, we have selected ingredients that optimally benefit the Deerhound's health and well-being.
Marigold
The marigold (calendula) is a plant that, like goldenrod, belongs to the Asteraceae family. Calendula is a cultivated flower; it has been used for centuries for its various medicinal properties. The original calendula species probably grew in Asia and Eastern Europe, but this field marigold is rarely found in the wild anymore. Marigold is also an edible plant for humans and is rich in nutrients. There's a lot of information available about the positive effects of calendula. We recommend adding calendula to dog food because it can help prevent breed-specific problems related to the skin, mouth, throat, digestion, eyes, and feet. It's particularly beneficial for restoring skin and mucous membranes, has anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties, and can prevent cramps during digestion.
Calendula is primarily used externally for skin conditions such as scratches and other skin problems. However, it can also be used internally for its regenerative properties.
Cranberry
The cranberry is a plant in the heather family. In the Netherlands, it is primarily found on the Wadden Islands and is very rare elsewhere in the country. Originally from North America, the plant is believed to have first arrived in the Netherlands around 1845. Cranberries contain a unique blend of nutrients that can provide a powerful health boost for dogs. The berries are rich in minerals like potassium, which helps maintain healthy levels of vital fluids in the body. They're also packed with vitamins A, B, and C, as well as antioxidants to support the immune system. Vitamin C makes urine more acidic, making the bladder environment less conducive to bacteria. Cranberry is added to our dog food because it could contribute positively to preventing breed-specific complaints related to digestion, skin, joints, bones, and nerve function, among other things.
Celery Celery is a plant in the Apiaceae family. It's often found growing on wet ground along the coast.
Celery is rich in vitamins A, C, and K, and also contains plenty of folate and potassium. It's also fat-free, high in fiber, and very low in calories.
We add celery to our dog food because it can positively contribute to supporting your dog's immune system and digestion. It can also have a positive effect on their skin and coat, muscle and nerve function (via vitamin A), and maintaining strong bones (via vitamin K).
Puppy, adult or senior? To help you make the right choice between our Deerhound dog food options, you can use the following guidelines. If your Deerhound is under 11 months old, choose the Puppy option. For a Deerhound over 7 years old, we recommend Yourdog Deerhound Senior. If your dog is over 11 months old and under 7 years old, you can choose the Adult option.

Switching advice If you're switching to Yourdog from another food brand, we recommend following these steps. First, feed 25% Yourdog and 75% of the old dog food. Your dog can get used to this for two days. Then, feed 50% Yourdog and 50% of the old dog food. It's important to let your dog get used to this for two or three days as well. Then, mix 75% Yourdog and 25% of the old dog food. Your dog is now almost completely switched to Yourdog. Continue this for two days. After this, you can switch to 100% Yourdog Deerhound dog food at your own discretion.
Storage advice After opening the Yourdog packaging, the food is exposed to oxygen, moisture, and light, which can affect its shelf life and flavor. Therefore, it's important to store the food properly after opening the bag, preferably in an airtight container or barrel in a dry, cool, and dark place. It's best not to put the food loose in the barrel, but to place the entire bag inside, sealing it as tightly as possible.
